Hi everyone!
Hope you’re not too snowed in under all your work, considering we’re getting pretty close to exams and all that. Turns out that it’s a busy week in the Department as well and we’d love to see you at some of our events!
Queer Collaborations
It’s getting close to when applications have to be in, which is the 1st of June, so those forms need to be sent in soon. I’ve attached the registration form and the equity grant form. If you’re having trouble with paying the registration fee by the 1st, email Brodie on queer.officer@flinders.edu.au and you should hopefully be able to sort something out. It’d be great if you could tell me when you’d sent those forms in as well. The collective isn’t organising transport for people, so if you’re flying, I’d suggest booking it sooner rather than later. We’re still waiting to hear back about SEEF, but there has been money allocated in our budget for subsidies, so we’ll get that money out as soon as we know about SEEF and people have sent me receipts for their payment. Please note that the subsidies are capped for the first 10 people who apply from the collective so complete your application promptly. Also note there is a statutory declaration and you do need someone of one of the professions in the link (http://www.ag.gov.au/Statutorydeclarations/Pages/Statutorydeclarationsignatorylist.aspx) to sign it off for you.
Queery – Queerness and Religion
5 pm Friday – Queer Space
It’s Queery time at last! Friday the 25th of May from 5pm we’ll be talking about the relationship between sexuality, gender identity and religion in the Queer Space, eating the choicest of cheeses and biscuits, drinking the $5-a-bottle-est of wines, and winding down a little before exam fever hits.

Queer Collective Meeting
5pm Thursday – Queer Space
Agenda is attached. This week we’ll be discussing Pride Week, reflecting on how the semester has gone in the Department and what we’re going to do next semester. As always, if there’s anything you’d like to discuss, email me and I’ll put it on the agenda or bring it up at the meeting.
ANUSA Ordinary General Meeting 1
12pm Wednesday – Union Court
Please please please please come! There’s a rather important motion regarding how Queer Officer is elected, which we passed a motion on a couple of weeks ago which will be passed into the ANUSA constitution if it passes, so we need at least a few people from the Queer Department to come and vote for it and if need be, speak for it.
Queer Coffee
10am Monday – Street Theatre Cafe
Just the usual Monday morning coffee at the Street Theatre. Come along, bring a friend, wear a ridiculous hat and join us!
ANUDisabilities calling for volunteers for Universal Spoon Hour
Our friends over at the Disabilities Collective are looking for some people to help out with promoting their first event, Universal Spoon Hour, which is from 12-2pm on Thursday the 31st of May. If you’re interested in helping with the preparation, please email sa.disabilites@anu.edu.au and tell them. They’d be super duper special happy if you did and you’d get that wonderful warm feeling of helping people out.
Reflect. Inspire. – International AIDS Candlelight Memory Ceremony
6.00 pm Sunday 20 May 2012 – National Gallery of Australia
The International AIDS Candlelight Memorial honours the memory of all people affected by HIV and reignites community activism in the response to HIV. With 33 million people living with HIV today, the IACM serves as an important intervention for global solidarity, breaking down barriers of stigma and discrimination, and giving hope to new generations. You are invited to honour the memories of those we have lost and those who have fought so hard for the rights and wellbeing of people affected by HIV at the 29th International Candlelight Memorial with the official launch of the fundraising effort for the Canberra Permanent AIDS Memorial project.

Housekeeping
There’s juice (by that I mean “fruit drink”) in the Queer Space fridge which you should totally drink because it’s super delicious and needs to be drank soon. If there’s any kind of staple food you think we should have in the Queer Space like bread or milk that we don’t have, feel free to email me and I’ll stock us up on it.
As always, you can borrow from the Queer Department library and hard drive during the officer hour (12:30-1:30 on Monday), the librarian hour (11:30-12:30 on Thursday) or whenever any one of Nat, Kira (the librarian) or myself are in the Queer Space. You can unsubscribe to this mailing list by responding “unsubscribe” or find out where the Queer Space is by responding “space” and request access by responding “access”.
If you’ve read all of this, you are a super special awesome person and I think you’re wonderful.
And just for you, http://buttersafe.com/2012/04/19/giving-a-presentation/
Useful for the next oral presentation you have to do.
Cheers,
Stuart
